Synopsis
Many artists come to New York for inspiration, but few manage truly to capture the city's mercurial essence. In this collection of ingeniously "manipulated" Polaroid photographs, Guido Ludes has created a series of fluid, brilliant, almost dreamlike images of Manhattan's streets, bridges, buildings, rivers, and people.
Inspired by a trip to the Negev desert. Ludes created an original technique which transfers the principles of painting to the realm of photography. By manipulating layers of Polaroid photographs, and then "painting" on them using stones instead of brushes or pens. Ludes readily evokes the city's state of constant transformation. In addition, Ludes reflects on and celebrates the new millennium by representing this historic moment as part of a holistic and multi-layered, wholly emotional experience.
Carefully arranged to complement a series of literary texts, these 55 full-color works demonstrate the depth and possibilities of photography as a modern art form-all the while changing forever the way we view the world's most colorful, diverse, and changeable city.
