Synopses & Reviews
This book does not attempt to cover all the birds to be found on the continent: other reference books do that in detail. Instead, North American Birds provides a beautiful pictorial taste of what can be seen with sections on Birds of Prey; Ducks, Geese, Swans, and Loons; Hummingbirds; Passerines; Seabirds; Shorebirds; Waders and Cranes; Woodpeckers, Sapsuckers, and Flickers. Full information on migration and on summer and winter habitat is provided in diagrammatic form.
About the Author
Patrick Hook is a scientist and engineer who lives deep in the countryside of Devon, England. His interests in wildlife and the environment began as a young child when he managed to introduce snakes into the guest bedroom, and caterpillars into the kitchen. Since then he has continued to study the natural world while keeping up a full-time career in motor-racing. This gave him the opportunity to travel extensively and visit many of the world’s more exotic locations. He has written several books on natural history, and these days runs a company developing space-age materials. He has many other interests including photography, classic cars, racing motorcycles and restoring old houses.
