L. Frank Baum, born in 1856, is America's foremost Fairy Tale author. While living in Chicago, his wife, Maud, urged him to write down the stories he told to the neighborhood children each evening. In 1900 his first book of Oz stories was published. It was called
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
