In this insightful and hopeful depiction of the pathways that teachers take in their learning, Marjorie Larner addresses the questions heard from teachers and administrators across the country:
- What does it take to learn and practice most effective instructional strategies?
- How do we get started and how do we keep learning and improving?
- How can we get everyone on board?
- How do we know if it's working?
- How do we sustain progress and integrate with changing mandates and directives?
From deep and ongoing experiences in all aspects of school life, Larner presents an authentic description of both the broad picture and the specific steps - the struggles, the pathways and the possibilities - leading to ongoing classroom and school improvement. A belief that teachers need to be in charge of their own learning is at the heart of every structure, activity, and proposed plan. Both a philosophical approach and a practical how-to guide, this book is a resource for teachers, administrators, and coaches to make well-informed decisions about their own course of learning with a viable action plan to improve instruction for all children.

About the Author
Marjorie Larner is coauthor of Comprehension Going Forward and author of Pathways. She also serves as Adjunct Faculty and Site Professor for University of Colorado Denver Urban Teacher Education Program. A former teacher, administrator, and staff developer with the Denver-based Public Education and Business Coallition, Marjorie's thinking and writing about how to support professional learning continues to evolve, particularly as we navigate the increasing challenges of the current educational culture.
