Ce n'est pas de Geneve que je vous ecris; je n'ai fait qu'y passer. Et votre mere? me direz-vous. Il y a trois ans que je ne l'avais vue; nous avons pleure en nous embrassant. Le premier jour, elle a ete presque tendre; le lendemain, elle m'a questionne; le surlendemain, elle s'est inquietee et m'a fait sonder par ses amis. L'un d'eux me demanda ce que je comptais faire; un autre calcula sur ses doigts ce qu'avaient du couter mes longs voyages dans le Levant; le troisieme m'examina sur les matieres de doctrine; le quatrieme... J'ai pris la fuite, et je cours encore.
