Synopsis
Images and text now move quickly and smoothly across out TV, movie, and computer screens. There is a revolution taking place in the world of video design; graphics are now in motion, incorporating elements of film, animation, and media.
Pause gives a brief history of motion graphics and focuses on what is now happening in this exciting field by featuring current trends, technological advances, and frame-by-frame examples from innovative video designers, such as MTV, The Attik, Fuel, and many others from around the world. As well as broadcast work, Pause features demo reels, music videos, film titles, animation, and experimental 3-D.
About the Author
Julie Hirschfeld worked as a senior designer of on-air graphics for VH1, New York from 1997 and is now a freelance designer of motion graphics in New York City. Recently she has completed projects for MTV, VH1 and Showtime. Awards for her work include four Broadcast Design Awards silvers in 1998 and 1999 and the Type Director's Club 1998.
Stefanie Barth is a freelance graphic designer based in Frankfurt, Germany. She has designed numerous projects for print including magazines; vinyl covers; corporate designs; film titles and web pages; as well as on-air design for VH1, New York.
Peter Hall is senior writer at I.D. Magazine in New York. He wrote and co-edited the book Tibor: Perverse Optimist (1998) and has contributed essays to the upcoming titles Architecture and Film and Sex and Design. He also writes about design for The Guardian, Print, AIGA Journal and Creative Review.
Andrea Codrington is a New York-based critic and writer specializing in design and visual culture and a frequent contributor to such publications as the New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, I.D. Magazine and Metropolitan Home. Codrington is also creative producer of a television series about design and architecture that is currently in development.
