Synopsis
Pecos Pueblo in north central New Mexico lies in the beautiful valley of the upper Pecos River, beneath the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the north and Rowe mesa to the south, west of vast grasslands. An important focus of pueblo culture for hundreds of years, the Pecos Pueblo was a strategic trading center for the Plains Indians, central to the Pueblo Revolt against the Spanish in 1680, and later an important stop for merchants on the Santa Fe Trail.
