A cheerful antidote to all those stories with the knowing and increasingly tedious moral-Be careful what you wish for, this picture book tell of a pig who swallows a magic acorn and finds all her wishes instantly gratified. The improbable good humor of the baby's parents under the acorn's spell is something that every child wishes for: things are joyously out of control, the result is nonstop fun, and, in the book's memorable refrain , 'nobody minded one bit!' The use of repeated refrains gives the text a wonderful lilt for reading aloud, and Young's ink-and-watercolor-wash illustrations capture the chaos with panache. (Booklist, April 15, 1999)
