Prologue She knew they were following her. But there was no time to hide. Catherine was in a race against time. When Catherine felt the 747 shudder, she looked out the window at the cloud cover below, and decided she was somewhere over New York. Faster, she silently urged the aircraft. Go faster, faster. . . . A magazine lay in her lap, dated December 1999. The headline on the cover read: IS THE WORLD ABOUT TO END? We face the New Millennium, Catherine thought. Was she also facing her own personal Armageddon? She certainly hadn't thought so three weeks ago, when she had been minding her own business, an archaeologist following the trail of an ancient legend--until she had accidentally stumbled upon an astounding discovery that had forced her to change her identity and her looks, and go into hiding, run for her life.
