Jenny Fran Davis: My Novel’s Clique: Jenny Fran Davis’s Bookshelf for 'Dykette' (0 comment)
I read a wide range of literature, from “chick lit” to heady nonfiction, and when I love a book, I begin to think of it as a friend. It also inspires me in one way or another: its tone, its sensibility, its cadence, its structure, or its voice....

Lex, a teenage Grim Reaper, has the power to Damn souls, and its getting out of control. Her boyfriend, Driggs, is dead . . . sort of. Shes a fugitive, on the run from the maniacal new mayor of Croak and the townspeople who want to see her pay the price for her misdeeds. Uncle Mort rounds up the Junior Grims to flee Croak once again, but this time theyre joined by Grotton, the most powerful Grim of all time. Their new mission is clear: Fix his mistakes, or the Afterlife will cease to exist, along with all the souls in it.

The gang heads for Necropolis, the labyrinth-like capital city of the Grimsphere. There, they discover that the Grimsphere needs a reboot. To do that, the portals to the Afterlife must be destroyed . . . but even that may not be enough to fix the damage. Things go from bad to worse, and when at last the fate of the Afterlife and all the souls of the Damned hang in the balance, it falls to Lex and her friends to make one final, impossible choice.

Review

"Jinkss signature facility with plot and character development is intact as she turns to the topic of vampires . . . Throwing in delicious details and aperçus, the author works her way from the murder of one of the vampires to suspense and adventure of the sinister yet daffy variety beloved by readers of Evil Genius. The plot twists, more ornate than in previous works, ramp up the giddiness—and, perhaps, camouflage the corpses, blood and other byproducts of the genre."  —Publishers Weekly, starred review

"Support Group is truly like no other vampire story. It is witty, cunning, and humorous, with numerous plot twists and turns. Jinks has conjured up an eccentric but believable cast of characters in a story full of action and adventure."  —School Library Journal

"Jinks offers some wry vampire-centric twists on mystery conventions . . . laugh-out-loud funny."

  —Booklist

"Jinks's quirky sense of humor will appeal to fans of her Evil Genius series. Those tired of torrid bloodsucker stories or looking for a comic riff on the trend will feel refreshed by the vomitous, guinea-pig-drinking accidental heroics of Nina and her pals."  —Kirkus Reviews

"Jinks draws her characters and their unique challenges in great detail . . . theres plenty of blood and guts (both types) to go around. One part problem novel, one part comedy, and one part murder-mystery, this alternative vampire story is for outsiders of all kinds, underground or otherwise." —Horn Book

“Jinks takes readers on a wild ride, poking wicked fun at vampire enthusiasts of all stripes with her wryly clinical take . . . a first-rate comedy with equal appeal for avid vampire fans and those who wouldnt be caught dead with a copy of Twilight.”  —The Bulletin

"With this budding heroine in her own right at the forefront, this ensemble of eccentric characters gives a wry spin to the ever-popular vampire tales."  —BookPage

Praise for Evil Genius:

"Jinks fills out the cast with brilliantly conceived friends and adversaries."  —Kirkus Reviews, starred review

Praise for Genius Squad:

"Gripping, devilish and wonderfully dark"  —Publishers Weekly, starred review

"[Jinks's] ability to craft vivid characters and engrossing action scenes continues unabated."  —Kirkus Reviews, starred review

Review

PRAISE FOR ROGUE

"A gut-wrenching, laugh-out-loud, gritty, honest and brave ending to an appealing trilogy."

—Kirkus

"Fans of Croak and Scorch will be dying to get their hands on this third and final book about Lex and her teenage grim-reaper friends and relations."

—VOYA, 3Q 4P J S

"The final installment of Damico's morbid and humorous 'Croak' trilogy . . . snarky comments between characters, humorous pop culture references, and quirky Afterlife denizens keep the story from being too heavy."

—School Library Journal

PRAISE FOR CROAK

"Go ahead and die laughing, knowing that the safe transport of your mortal soul will be the summer job of a sweetheart teen with godlike power and discipline problems. A lot of books make me wish I could live within their pages, but I wouldn't mind dying in this one."

—Adam Rex, author of Fat Vampire

"Creepy and hilarious."

—VOYA, 4Q, 5P

PRAISE FOR SCORCH

"An amusing blend of whimsy and humor with serious drama and blood."

—Kirkus Reviews

"Characters are always as clever as we wish we were. . . . An irresistible blend of impending doom, irreverent humor, hormone-fueled make-out sessions, and creative world-building make this sequel stronger than its predecessor and will leave readers dying for the next book."

—School Library Journal

Synopsis

Think vampires are romantic, sexy, and powerful? Think again. Vampires are dead. And unless they want to end up staked, they have to give up fanging people, admit their addiction, join a support group, and reform themselves.

Nina Harrison, fanged at fifteen and still living with her mother, hates the Reformed Vampire Support Group meetings every Tuesday night. Even if she does appreciate Dave, who was in a punk band when he was alive, nothing exciting ever happens. That is, until one of group members is mysteriously destroyed by a silver bullet. With Nina (determined to prove that vamps aren't useless or weak) and Dave (secretly in love with Nina) at the helm, the misfit vampires soon band together to track down the hunter, save a werewolf, and keep the world safe from the likes of themselves.

The perfect anecdote to slick vampire novels, this murder-mystery comedy of errors will thrill fans of Evil Genius.

To escape the townspeoples wrath, she and her friends embark on a wild road trip to DeMyse. Though this sparkling desert oasis is full of luxuries and amusements, it feels like a prison to Lex.
