Excerpt from Report of the Quartermaster-General of the State of New Jersey, Vol. 6: For the Year 1883
The money value of the annual quota payable in arms by the United States is four thousand three hundred and eighteen dollars and six cents quite inadequate under the appropri ation of two hundred thousand dollars At this rate it would take the accumulation of at least fifteen (15) years, when our present rifles would be quite out of date and unservice able to supply a sufficient number for re-arming the National Guard of this State.
