Samia Halaby: Five Decades of Painting and Innovation offers an unprecedented look at one of the worlds leading abstract painters. Born in Jerusalem in 1936, Halaby now lives and works in New York. Spanning more than five decades of the Palestinian artists illustrious career, from her early student days in the 1960s to her most recent series in 2013, the book contains nearly 450 color reproductions, presenting her expansive oeuvre through paintings, prints, and drawings. From large canvases exploring the color planes of geometric and helix formations to abstract assemblages that pulse with movement, her practice is one of radical experimentation and creative urgency.
About the Author
A major international artist, Samia Halaby has taught at the Yale School of Art and other institutions. Halabys work is in the collections of numerous major museums worldwide and has been included in solo and group exhibitions from Tokyo to Little Rock to Beirut and Damascus. Maymanah Farhat is a New Yorkbased art historian who has written widely on modern and contemporary art of the Arab world and its diaspora.
