Synopses & Reviews
Risk is of fundamental importance in this era of the global economy. Supply chains must into account the uncertainty of demand. Moreover, the risk of uncertain demand can cut two ways: (1) there is the risk that unexpected demand will not be met on time, and the reverse problem (2) the risk that demand is over estimated and excessive inventory costs are incurred. There are other risks in unreliable vendors, delayed shipments, natural disasters, etc. In short, there are a host of strategic, tactical and operational risks to business supply chains. This book will focus on how to assess, evaluate, and control these various risks. SUPPLY CHAIN RISK: A Handbook of Assessment, Management, and Performance provides the parameters of risk management as applied to Supply Chain Management. The book outlines these parameters in six sections, which are: (1) Risk Analysis, Assessment, and Tools; (2) Risk Theory; (3) Supply Chain Design and Risk; (4) Supply Chain Risk Management; (5) Risk and Performance Measurement in Supply Chains; and (6) Supply Chain Security. The book's introductory chapter covers the development of the field, reviewing both its recent research and practical developments. The final chapter outlines open questions and discusses future directions where research and practice may take Supply Chain Risk as a field. The individual chapters report both quantitative and qualitative studies while emphasizing the relevance, understanding and application by those in the research community, knowledgeable practitioners, and policy makers.
Review
From the reviews: "This book is a collection of research from practitioners and scholars in the area of Supply Chain Risk. ... This book includes a comprehensive set of models, frameworks and a rich indication to further references to related supply chain risk literature which presents in its own a great source of information and value. ... This is a well-written and an excellent reference book for postgraduate students, academics and practitioners in the area of supply chain risk ... ." Synopsis
Supply Chain Risk impacts every organization irrespective of sector, size or location in the supply chain. At the same time, the cost of managing supply chain risk is escalating significantly, as are the consequences of not managing such risks effectively. This Handbook represents the work of 30 different authors from 11 different countries, all of whom are recognized international authorities in research, practice, and policy associated with Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) and the wider domain of Supply Chain Management (SCM). The first truly comprehensive collection of current research and leading-edge thinking on supply chain risk and its management, the book is structured into four main sections: 1) Risk Analysis, Assessment and Tools; 2) Supply Chain Design and Risk; 3) Supply Chain Risk Management; and 4) Supply Chain Security. Reflecting the proactive approach SCRM demands, the contributors tackle issues associated with identifying, measuring and classifying risks; designing supply chains to address inherent risks; risk management within the broader Enterprise Risk Management standard; risk in the small and medium-sized sector; disruptive behavior; supply chain security and intentional disruption; continuity planning; and many other topics. Designed to appeal to researchers, scholars, policy makers and practitioners alike, the Handbook is well grounded in robust empirical methodologies and evidence and represents the structures, practices and processes currently employed in industry.
