Synopsis
Excerpt from The Brook Book: A First Acquaintance With the Brook and Its Inhabitants Through the Changing Year
The full page half-tone illustrations in this book were made by the various photographic artists whose names appear in the list below. The line drawings were mostly made direct from nature; a few from photographs. A large number of them were done by the author of Familiar Trees and their Leaves and other Charming nature books, Mr. F. Schuyler Mathews, whose characteristic monogram accompanies his drawings. I am also indebted to Mr. Mathews for a delightful first-hand account of the hermit thrush, which I have adapted from one of his letters.' The other line drawings were made by Mrs. Marie Robertson Duggar, Mr. C. W. Furlong, Mr. W. C. Baker, Mr. E. N. Fischer, and others. The Chickadee picture was drawn by Mr. Louis Agassiz Fuertes. Some of the photographs from which drawings were made, were furnished by Professor G. F. Atkinson, Professor F. A. Waugh, Miss Martha W. Buehler, and Professor M. V. Slingerland.
