Synopsis
Excerpt from The Crown Colonies of Great Britain: An Inquiry Into Their Political Economy, Fiscal Systems, and Trade
All this is so obvious to those acquainted with these colonies that it gives rise to a conviction in many minds that the only people fit to judge of internal affairs in any country whatever are the people who inhabit it. On the other hand, the mixed communities Of races, with opposite views and Often hostile interests, which inhabit some of the Crown colonies, make the full application of such views often impracticable at present, or at least so extremely difficult that administrators prefer to continue the present system with all its evident and admitted evils. It remains only for absolute justice to be dealt out to all classes equally, irrespective of race and interest, until the time arrives when complete local control may be given to the people.
