Synopsis
When everything important you're trying to do fails...what then? Sure, you accomplished a hell of a lot getting as far as you did. But when it came to reaching your highest goals, you sadly fell devastatingly short. Now what? This is the seventh and final book of the science fiction series "The Girl with the Turtle Tattoo." Dr. Susan King is a newly-minted NASA astronaut anxiously strapped into an Orion space capsule. She's accomplished a huge amount to be there: earned a Ph.D. in astrophysics, completed postdoc research on the composition and behavior of asteroids, and fought off criminal charges of being a murderess. But her efforts were worth the present achievement. She and her crewmates are about to launch into space atop the largest SLS rocket-stack ever assembled. It's a desperate mission hastily thrown together by NASA. Their critical task is to intercept then divert-or-destroy a newly discovered giant Asteroid that is hurtling toward Earth. Their mission is to save the world Unfortunately, everything goes wrong. Nothing is as it seems. Inside the repurposed Mars Transit Vehicle, Hermes, a strange, painful hell develops. Hindu myths seemingly come to life. Cut off from Mission Control, the crew improvises increasingly bizarre mechanical/biological fixes. But guilty nightmares haunt Susan, screaming-out that the crew's heroic struggles are all futile. She knows this is her last opportunity for personal redemption. Can she somehow overcome utter catastrophe? To do so Susan must reach beyond science, philosophy, and even religion. Only then will Time, Space, and Energy reveal their deepest secrets.
