Excerpt from The Marine Transport of Petroleum: A Book for the Use of Shipowners, Shipbuilders, Underwriters, Merchants, Captains, and Officers of Petroleum-Carrying Vessels
In putting together the following notes the author has been much assisted by Sir E. J. Reed, m.p.; Mr. W. H. White, r.n., Chief Constructor to the Admiralty; Professor Jenkins, m.a., of Glasgow University Mr. B. Martel], Chief Surveyor Of Lloyd's - all of whom have permitted the author to make excerpts from their well-known works. The author takes this opportunity of expressing his thanks to the foregoing authorities, to Whom he is indebted for much information. AS regards the remarks on the nature, composition, testing, &c., of petroleum, he is indebted to Professor Tate, of Liverpool, who has taken great interest in the subject, and is a well-known authority on Chemical Technics; and Mr. Boverton Redwood, F is another authority that the author is deeply indebted to for much practical and useful data.
