Boris, the brother-ia-law of the last sovereign, whose talents and activity had raised him to the highest offices of the state, was elected in his stead his reign was distinguished and disturbed by famine, insurrections, and impostors, several of whom assumed the name of Demetrius, the son of Ivan IV., whom Boris had murdered.
