Excerpt from The Recognition Scene in the Choephoroe: An Examination of Dr. Verrall's Introduction to the Play With a New Solution of the Problem
Whom the plays of the Athenian dramatists are living literature, to be read and criticized as such.
The essay was written several years ago, and was shown to Professor Gilbert Murray and to Professor Gilbert N orwood, to both of whom my thanks are due.
The latter urged me to publish it with my Essay on the Problem of the Agamemnon, but the War and a prolonged absence from England has hitherto prevented this.
