Synopsis
Excerpt from The Standard Guide to Asheville and Western North Carolina
This book is intended to be of practical value to the tourist in finding the chief resorts of this region.
No attempt has been made to describe the beauties of the mountain resorts, such description being hardly necessary in a work of this kind, and because it is impossible to convey in language an idea of the picturesqueness of the scenery.
The engravings are from original drawings by Mr. Roger Davis, and were made expressly for this work. Their artistic merit will be appreciated by the cultivated reader. One of the chief characteristics of Mr. Davis' work is its rare fidelity to nature. He makes no attempt to idealize, believing that the imagination of the artist can add noth ing to the natural arrangement of mountain, valley and stream.
