The United States Open Championship is one of four major championships. It began officially and humbly in 1895 and is the second oldest of the four major championships. The US Open is a very coveted championship. Thousands of golf professionals and amateurs from all parts of the world try to qualify for a spot in the US Open and a chance to win. At its inception, it was considered second in importance to the United States Amateur championship. Horace Rawlins won the first US Open in 1895 and was given $100 and a gold medal for his effort. The 2016 champion, Dustin Johnson, won $1,800,000. The championship has come a long way in one hundred and twenty one years, and has been won by both professionals and amateurs.This book is a history of each championship and provides a biography of each champion. There are many little known facts that have been revealed regarding both the championships and the champions.
