Thou Art the Man (1850) is a whimsical murder mystery. Rattleborough is baffled by the disappearance and presumed death of its most wealthy citizen, along with a large sum of cash. In the Murders in the Rue Morgue (1841) and The Purloined Letter (1845) we meet up with August Dupin, one of the first and most original amateur sleuths.
