The baksheesh experience
During my first visit, my husband and I were dropped by our private tour guide close to the Giza Pyramids so that we could hop on a couple of camels. We set off and immediately the camel drivers began yelling baksheesh, baksheesh. The camels seemed to get faster and faster. We jokingly guessed that, to the camel, the word baksheesh meant hurry. We promised baksheesh, of course, the driver calmed, as did the camels, and we continued our exhilarating journey around the pyramids and to the Sphinx in a more leisurely fashion. Carole French
