Synopsis
Excerpt from Trade Unionism
The efforts put forward in favour of social reform seem to have been more successful, and many of the organisations became almost parts of the Chartist Movement. Where the organisations did not become part of the Chartist Movement, many of the leaders took very active part in it.
It is not intended or possible to go very much into the details of the Chartist Movement in this volume, but a passing reference is necessary to show each stage in the progress of what has been the basis upon which the structure of the Trade Unions of to-day has been built.
