TransLatin Joyce is a collection of nine essays exploring the routes and rates of circulation of James Joyce's work in the Ibero-American literary system within the cartographies of peripheral modernism on the global scale. The essays address Joycean literary engagements in Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Mexico, and Cuba, using concepts from postcolonial translation studies, antimodernism, game theory, sound studies, deconstruction, and post-Euclidean physics, among others. Essays are based on new in-depth archival findings and close textual readings revealing understudied routes of Joycean transmission in literary and journal publications and/or the personal archives of Marichalar, Pessoa, Arlt, Elizondo, Desnoes, Sarduy, and Sainz, as well as Borges, Marechal, Cortázar, and Fuentes. The collection's range of themes will be of interest to scholars in comparative, world, postcolonial, English, Iberian, and Latin American literatures: from social and literary space to phenomenology and modernity, from high art and science to popular culture, from decolonization and post-colonialism to globalization, from language and gender politics to translation and transculturation.

In a near-perfect convergence of international academic and market interests, middlebrow and highbrow print cultures, modernist and postmodernist aesthetics, Cold War hegemonies and decolonization struggles, and cosmopolitan and postcolonial agendas, James Joyce became a key point of reference in the writings of Iberian and Ibero-American pre-boom, boom, and post-boom authors. TransLatin Joyce proposes new ways of addressing the following question: What can the study of the routes and rates of circulation of James Joyce's work in the Ibero-American or the intra-Latino literary systems teach us about the cartographies of peripheral modernism on the global scale?
