The range of mountains that separates the highlands of the central part of Asia from India and from Pakistan is the highest and the most imposing on earth. From west to east, this mountain system is made up of three ranges: the Hindu Kush, the Karakoram, and the Himalayas. In this range are the fourteen tallest mountains in the world, all higher than eight thousand metres. There are also hundreds and hundreds of peaks taller than seven thousand metres.
