Reading Group Guide
1. Why do you think Farah and Lenox stayed together for so long? List three specific reasons. What's different about their relationship compared to others that don't last?
2. Discuss the role that loyalty and deception played in the interactions between the Farah and Lenox.
3. Between Farah, Lenox, Lola, Farah's mother and Maritza, which one is your favorite character and why?
4. To many women, denial is not just a river, it's how they deal with drama. Do you think there were signs of Lenox's infidelity before Farah found out for sure? If so, why do you think she chose to overlook them? And why do you think she finally made the choice to confront the truth?
5. How do you feel about Farah's expectations (or lack of them) for her relationship with Lenox? At the end of the book, how do you feel about her chances for real happiness with him?
6. One of the main themes of the book is that it's never too late to make positive choices in our lives. What positive choices does Farah make? Would you have chosen differently?
7. Another main theme of the book is the choice that professional women have to face in choosing between love and success, in a culture where they are expected to have it all--the man, the house, and the career. Are there any examples of these choices in your own life? If not, how do you balance and gain perspective (and patience)? Share those as a group.
