Adrienne and I were standing in my office the other day whispering about Jeff and Amy and Eric and Stacey. My door was open and we didn't want India to overhear us ? she hasn't finished reading
The Ruins yet. She doesn't know about Eric's foot or about Amy and the water… Oh, and you might not either! So I'll stop there. Mustn't tell too much.
The Ruins is a great book.
Scott Smith has written a suspenseful, creepy, riveting, engaging book. It's made to be read in the heat of Summer or in the sunny coolness of a lingering Summer. (If you are still having warm weather where you are. Our rain started early this year.) So get on it quickly!
I love it when several of us in the department are reading the same book, or when a book spreads through like a rumor. Darkly Dreaming Dexter is like that. About a third of the staff is reading it. As usual, we can blame Carla for this. Alex, who sits next to her, has read it (which is pretty amazing since Alex is one of those people who reads five books at once and obviously pushed Dexter to the head of the reading queue.) Adrienne read it; Lynn read it; Carrie is reading it. If Carrie likes it, then I'll give it a try. I'm not usually one for serial killers and I don't think she is, either. I had a copy on my desk for a customer and Drew, the new guy, walked in, saw it, and his face lit up: "Dexter! You're reading it?" Carla got to him, too.
