Granny Torrelli Makes Soup
by
Sharon Creech
brunettegal418
, January 03, 2008
This book is a must read! Filled with warm recipes, innocent childhood love, and an Italian grandmother who seems all too familiar; this novel will draw any reader into it's pages smelling of pasta, tomatoes, spices, and soup. Sharon Creech tells this charming and simple tale with a child narrating; exploring ideas such as arguing, forgiving, love, and the precious, colorful past. Not only does this book give a warm, Italian embrace but it's cleverly written plot will captivate. A definite must read!

About A Boy
by
Nick Hornby
brunettegal418
, January 03, 2008
This is a cunningly written story by a quietly extrordinary writer, Nick Hornby. This story tells of a bored, rich man searching for a wife, who ends up posing as a single dad. The problem is, now he needs a son. This clever, funny, yet moving story tells of the bonding between a man and a boy who otherwise seem completley opposite. This is a must read not only because of Hornby's captivating writing, but because this charming story will stay with the reader forever.

Everything Is Illuminated
by
Jonathan Safran Foer
brunettegal418
, January 02, 2008
This was truly one the most cleverly written books I have ever read. The character Alex's narration in his butchered English shine a humourous light on the more deep, though churning, and moving aspects of this book. Not only does Jonathan Safran Foer look into the past, but he shines a light on future generations. This book seems highley personal with a location in Ukraine, characters in need of ESL, and a Jewish ansectory; yet after reading this book one feels more enlightened about everyone's past, and the future we are all a part of. This book must be read by everyone!
