Janice P. Nimura: Stand in the Place Where They Were (0 comment)
I’ve always loved historic house museums, loved peering beyond the velvet rope into a Victorian bedroom or a colonial kitchen and imagining the ghosts that wore those dresses, or worked the handle of that butter churn, or laid the fire in that grate...

Publisher Comments

New York Times best selling author William R. Forstchen now brings us a story which can be all too terrifyingly real...a story in which one man struggles to save his family and his small North Carolina town after America loses a war, in one second, a war that will send America back to the Dark Ages...A war based upon a weapon, an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP).  A weapon that may already be in the hands of our enemies. Months before publication, One Second After has already been cited on the floor of Congress as a book all Americans should read, a book already being discussed in the corridors of the Pentagon as a truly realistic look at a weapon and its awesome power to destroy the entire United States, literally within one second. It is a weapon that the Wall Street Journal warns could shatter America. In the tradition of On the Beach, Fail Safe and Testament, this book, set in a typical American town, is a dire warning of what might be our future...and our end.

Review

"Civilization slides into the abyss of a new dark age in this horrifying apocalyptic novel.  Forstchen has put Bin Laden's wet dream on paper and, in the process, taken civilization straight to the rack."--Stephen Coonts, author of The Assassin“The only thing more terrifying than this masterfully crafted story is the possibility of it actually happening—and not a damn thing being done to protect us.”

--W.E.B. Griffin & William E. Butterworth IV

"Forstchen's work has flair and power."--Joel Rosenberg, author of The Sleeping Dragon

"Good storytelling consists very simply of creating characters so believable that the reader forms a deep bond. Forstchen did such a damned fine job with One Second After that shortly after the first page, I had been reeled in hook, line, and sinker."--David Hagberg, New York Times bestselling author of The Expediter

I have read thousands of books off all genres. This is the first book, in all my life, that I threw away. I did this because I did not want someone else to read this awful pierce of work by passing it through my hands. The hero in this horribly written book, should have been tried as a war criminal in the end. Instead he was applauded. It is a morally corrupt and fear mongering piece of propaganda.

This book was intense and scary, knowing that this could happen in the US at any given moment. What we as humans are reduced as to after an EMP has hit, is a huge eye opener. It's a must read.

This has to be one of the best books I have ever read. It is also the most frightening because it is based on a true threat to not just us but the whole world. As well as being based on human nature which is just frightful.

This book is one of the best I have read in my lifetime. The author takes you to levels of reality which are purely fictional simply because of the probabilities of the story as it seems like real life. America is devastated with war as it is attacked by means of a practically silent enemy namely an EMP Electro-magnetic Pulse attack. Most of the population is unaware as chaos evolves into a pre-1800's way of living. As the characters appear and reappear in the story the feeling of being there and knowing them is best described by the authors ability to present to you a familiarization to most readers. Based on facts the reader is taken on a journey which cannot be denied and is very much like life itself. As you read the story one seems to travel easily through the eyes of the author to each destination. Mystery, intrigue and excitement are with you with every turn of a page. David Rojas - Las Vegas

No electricity, no media, no transportation running - at least not all -, no food deliveries, no nothing, and how do you survive? An excellant senario of what could happen during a national disaster, the good and the bad of humanity. An absolute must read. How would you survive?

After 9/11 you realize how vulnerable the United States to isolated attack to one of our cities. EMP is a undeniable fact that probably is the soft underbelly of our nation that doesn't think about enemies at the gates. This novel is an emotional roller coaster ride of sorrow, pride and hope. You ask yourself the question "Am I living my life in a way to reflect my true priorities ?" Reading this book leaves me with a fearful nature that requires me reconsider the material stuff I carry into my home. The book changed my next vehicle purchase to one built before 1970.
