Kelsey Ford: 10 Books That Celebrate Women’s Rights and Women’s Wrongs (0 comment)
Sure, women’s rights have come a long way over the last century, but for every step forward, it feels like we take a few back, and when that feeling is so consistent, so insidious? Man, it makes me want to support women’s wrongs. On this list, you’ll find books about women’s rights — Gloria Steinem, Barbara Ehrenreich, Mary Beard...

Publisher Comments

This best-selling guide to decluttering your home from Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes readers step-by-step through her revolutionary KonMari Method for simplifying, organizing, and storing.

Japanese organizational consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly declutter your home once, you'll never have to do it again. Whereas most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, the KonMari Method's category-by-category, all-at-once prescription leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo's clients have been repeat customers (and she still has a three-month waiting list of new customers!). With detailed guidance for every type of item in the household, this quirky little manual from Japan's newest lifestyle phenomenon will help readers clear their clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home — and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.

Review

"All hail the new decluttering queen Marie Kondo, whose mess-busting bestseller has prompted a craze for tidying in homes across the world...one proper clear out is all you need for the rest of your life." Good Housekeeping

Review

"[It is] enough to salute Kondo for her recognition of something quietly profound: that mess is often about unhappiness, and that the right kind of tidying can be a kind of psychotherapy for the home as well as for the people in it." The London Times

About the Author

Marie “KonMari” Kondo runs an acclaimed consulting business in Tokyo helping clients transform their cluttered homes into spaces of serenity and inspiration. With a three-month waiting list, her KonMari Method of decluttering and organizing has become an international phenomenon. The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up is a best seller in Japan, Germany, and the UK, with more than two million copies sold worldwide, and has been turned into a television drama for Japanese TV. She has been featured on more than thirty major Japanese television and radio programs and in the Sunday Times, Red magazine, You magazine, and the Times, who has deemed her “Japan’s preeminent guru of tidiness," a warrior princess in the war on clutter.

I enjoy this book very much. For anyone who helps others reduce clutter in their life, this is a great book to start with. The simplest phase - "Does this bring you joy?" is the backbone of staying stuck or moving forward. I have used this question within my own gardening business. It is a quick and informative read, have that cup of tea and look at your world with new eyes.

The hype around this book is hard to escape. While reading it, I vacillated between thinking the author was a bit of a nut, and alternately jumping out of my chair to go tidy something. Marie Kondo's methods are very specific and, as many reviewers have noted, somewhat obsessive at times. That being said, she is extremely motivational and can communicate her intentions with quite a bit of warmth and personality. I'd say this book is most definitely worth a read, whether you decide to go "KonMarie" full force, or simply pick and choose a few useful tenets of the tidying magic.

I started reading this on 1/1/15 to aid me in resolution to simplify my life. This book is decpetively easy to read through yet I find myself savoring the concepts, pausing and contemplating the easy rules Marie Kondo outlines. I felt like Neo looking into The Matrix after only a few chapters. My home didn't look like a retreat, I saw to-do lists in every corner. This book is an investment in your quality of life and the peace of your home. *purchased on 12/30/14 at Cedar Hills

In this day and age, enlightenment the goal, imagine coming to one's self in joy by merely putting those "things" aside which do not bring you pleasure. Marie Kondo nails it when it comes to this consumer society in which we find ourselves dissatisfied, empty, and yearning for something we cannot quite put our finger on. I'm giving this book to each of my family members for Christmas. And I myself have already begun with the first closet. I am thrilled! Lee Marx
