I hadn’t read a Nora Roberts novel in several years, and Black Hills was a pleasant surprise. Roberts will never win a Booker or Pulitzer, but no one can deny that she sells books, and Black Hills is an excellent example of why. Strong female characters (no whining here) are mixed with equally strong male characters and thrown into a fast-paced hunt for a serial killer at a wildlife refuge. So what if you know the lead characters will resolve their conflicts by the end of the story? It’s how they do it that intrigues us, and you’ll close this book satisfied and longing for just one more bite.
