While recovering from an attack that's left him battling PTSD, Jonathan Stride and his lover, detective Serena Dial, agree to search for a missing child. Stride's partner Maggie Bei, waiting for Stride to return to duty, is deep in the search for a serial killer who snatches women from their rural homes. Steeped in family dysfunction and tangled webs, the two cases are closer than they appear at first, and Freeman keeps the suspense taut throughout the book. The Burying Place is one of Brian Freeman's best, and his ability to take risks with his characters promises to keep this series vibrant for a long time.
