Demons, elves, vampires, and witches... just a few of my favorite things! Thank heaven for Kim Harrison and her Rachel Morgan series, which feeds my addiction on a regular basis. It was hard, but I waited patiently, like a good little urban fantasy-crazed fan, for this book to appear. It is Harrison's best by far. The plot, as usual, is well crafted and uncluttered. Too many late-to-the game writers in this genre seem to have a difficult time with this concept. All the regular characters are back as Rachel is forced to team up with her arch-nemesis, Trent, a criminal kingpin and elf, in order to save herself and a friend. Along the way, there are some terrific twists. I loved watching Rachel deal with unsettling revelations about her family history and find a little peace in her confusing relationship with her vampire roommate, Ivy. If you haven't read this wonderful series, start with the first book, Dead Witch Walking. Prepare to be hooked!
