Put everything aside, and make sure all your chores are done ? it's time for a new John Connolly novel. The Reapers, the latest in Connolly's Charlie Parker series, grabbed me from the beginning, pulling me into the shadowy world of Parker's two reformed (sort of) criminal cohorts, Angel and Louis. Much of former (sort of) hit man Louis's checkered past is revealed as the author weaves a riveting story of flawed characters fighting to come to terms with and move beyond their murky pasts. Parker is a supporting player here, but fans (and new readers) will find a fast-paced plot to complement Connolly's well-crafted and beautifully written prose. If you haven't read any of the Charlie Parker series, this is a good stand-alone book to start with. Be warned though, you will become obsessed with these characters and with Connolly's storytelling. Luckily, there are more books in the Parker series, starting with Every Dead Thing.
